Suicide Prevention

Ottawa- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl stood in the House of Commons today to address the issue of suicide prevention:

"Mr. Speaker, on September 4th, I hosted a roundtable with local mental health service providers in Chilliwack to discuss suicide prevention and mental illness, as part of the Mental Health Commission of Canada's '308 Conversations' initiative.

"We talked about innovative programs that were working, and talked about gaps in the system of care.

EI Premium relief announced for small businesses

Chilliwack- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl is applauding an announcement by Finance Minister Joe Oliver of a new Small Business Job Credit which will effectively lower Employment Insurance (EI) premiums for small businesses.

"The Small Business Job Credit will provide tax relief to help small businesses in a time of continued global economic uncertainty," said Strahl. "It will allow them to save money on payroll taxes and hopefully hire more employees."

Member of Parliament Mark Strahl (Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon), on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced that, under the second round of the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program, the Government of Canada will provide up to $124,000 to the Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition to conserve valuable fish habitat in the Chilliwack and Vedder rivers.
