Chilliwack- Mark Strahl, MP for Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon announced that Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) would deliver $46 million over two years to local, regional and First Nation governments as well as not-for-profit organizations in Western Canada to make eligible repairs and upgrades on community facilities such as local arenas and sports fields.

"Improving the quality of arenas and sports facilities will create local jobs and help build stronger and more prosperous communities," said Strahl.

The funding is part of a $150 million Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) that will support development agencies across Canada. The CIIF will support, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure that is accessible to the public. Projects that can be completed before March 31, 2014 are invited to apply for funding.

The deadline to apply is August 2, 2012. There will be a second call for applications in November and additional intakes if funding is available. For details on project eligibility and how to submit an application, please refer to www.wd-deo.gc.ca.
