Chilliwack- Funding of over $2.1 million for state of the art training equipment for the Agriculture Centre of Excellence at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in Chilliwack was announced today by the Minister of State for Western Diversification, the Honourable Michelle Rempel.

Conservative Government working to curb prescription drug abuse

Chilliwack- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl announced that the federal government was seeking ideas on how to improve the prescribing practices of drugs that have a high risk of abuse or addiction.

"Prescription drugs are now the most commonly abused substance by youth after alcohol and marijuana. To curb this growing problem, we need to raise awareness of the risks and dangers associated with their abuse," said Strahl.

Have your say on proposed changes to food nutrition labels

Chilliwack- Mark Strahl, MP for Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon is encouraging area residents to have their say on the Government of Canada's proposed changes to Nutrition Facts Table located on prepackaged foods.

"By making the nutrition labels easier to understand we're helping moms and dads make good choices about the foods they buy and prepare for their families," said Strahl.

Local municipalities to receive first installment of Gas Tax Funds

Chilliwack- On behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities, and Intergovernmental Affairs, Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl announced that the first installment of the federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) for 2014 is being made available to support local infrastructure priorities.

Chilliwack- On behalf of the Honourable Candice Bergen, Minister of State (Social Development), MP Mark Strahl is encouraging local organizations to apply for funding under the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) to improve accessibility in community facilities for Canadians with disabilities.

"Through the Enabling Accessibility Fund, our Government is helping remove the barriers that prevent Canadians with disabilities from participating fully in their communities and workplaces," said Strahl.

Third phase of Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnership Program opens

Strahl announces funding for local salmon habitat restoration

Chilliwack- Mark Strahl, MP for Chilliwack Fraser Canyon announced funding of $46,650 for Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition for the restoration of the Hopedale Floodplain. The local project is among 85 projects under the EcoAction Community Funding Program announced by Minister of Environment, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq.

A tribute to men and women in uniform

Computers for Schools Program to provide new digital learning opportunities in area schools

Ottawa- Students at a number of local schools will have new digital learning opportunities thanks to the Computers for Schools Program announced by Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl.

"The Computer for Schools Program will give students access to digital learning they might not otherwise have helping prepare them for the jobs and opportunities of the future," said Strahl.
