Since I was elected in 2011, I've had the privilege of serving on a number of Parliamentary Standing Committees, which are permanent committees struck by the House of Commons to study and consider issues relating to a particular government department. Funding partnership helps protect local communities from flooding

CHILLIWACK – Residents in Chilliwack, Harrison Hot Springs, Hope and Cultus Lake will be safer from flooding, thanks to over $5.3 million worth of projects to upgrade pumping stations, dikes and culverts in those communities, MP Mark Strahl and MLAs John Martin and Laurie Throness announced today.

Strahl announces federal funds to improve local rail crossing

Ottawa- On behalf of the Minister of Transport, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl announced that the Government of Canada is providing $68,450 for the addition of constant warning time devices at the Young Street railway crossing in Chilliwack.

The device measures train speed and distance, predicting the arrival of the train at the crossing allowing for a relatively uniform warning time to public traffic.

When I was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development last September, I received a number of kind notes and letters congratulating me on my appointment. One note that I won't soon forget said "Aboriginal Affairs is a tough portfolio, but your Dad always used to say 'focus on the possible.' Good luck!"

It was, as it often is from that source, very good advice.
