Ottawa- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl stood in the House of Commons today to address the issue of suicide prevention:
"Mr. Speaker, on September 4th, I hosted a roundtable with local mental health service providers in Chilliwack to discuss suicide prevention and mental illness, as part of the Mental Health Commission of Canada's '308 Conversations' initiative.
"We talked about innovative programs that were working, and talked about gaps in the system of care.
Chilliwack- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl is applauding an announcement by Finance Minister Joe Oliver of a new Small Business Job Credit which will effectively lower Employment Insurance (EI) premiums for small businesses.
"The Small Business Job Credit will provide tax relief to help small businesses in a time of continued global economic uncertainty," said Strahl. "It will allow them to save money on payroll taxes and hopefully hire more employees."
The Government of Canada Invests In Round II Recreational Fisheries Conservation Project In Chilliwack – Fraser Canyon
Member of Parliament Mark Strahl (Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon), on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced that, under the second round of the Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program, the Government of Canada will provide up to $124,000 to the Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition to conserve valuable fish habitat in the Chilliwack and Vedder rivers.
Chilliwack- A suicide prevention round table discussion was hosted today by Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl at the Coast Hotel as part of the 308 Conversation Initiative launched by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC).
"Suicide has enormous impact on our society. We need to talk about this issue if we are going to learn how we can help those who are suffering," said Strahl.
Chilliwack- A proposal by Industry Minister James Moore to work with the provinces and territories to break down Canada's internal trade barriers has the support of Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl.
"Internal trade barriers that prevent workers, goods and services from crossing provincial boundaries hurt Canadian workers, businesses and consumers. Removing these barriers will create jobs and economic opportunities," said Strahl.

Chilliwack- Funding of over $2.1 million for state of the art training equipment for the Agriculture Centre of Excellence at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in Chilliwack was announced today by the Minister of State for Western Diversification, the Honourable Michelle Rempel.
Chilliwack- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP Mark Strahl announced that the federal government was seeking ideas on how to improve the prescribing practices of drugs that have a high risk of abuse or addiction.
"Prescription drugs are now the most commonly abused substance by youth after alcohol and marijuana. To curb this growing problem, we need to raise awareness of the risks and dangers associated with their abuse," said Strahl.
Chilliwack- Mark Strahl, MP for Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon is encouraging area residents to have their say on the Government of Canada's proposed changes to Nutrition Facts Table located on prepackaged foods.
"By making the nutrition labels easier to understand we're helping moms and dads make good choices about the foods they buy and prepare for their families," said Strahl.
