Ottawa, June 17, 2013 - The appointment of a new Citizenship Judge for the Montréal area was announced today by Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. Andrea Paine will serve as a full-time Citizenship Judge for Montréal.

The unrest in Syria has led more than 1.6 million Syrians to seek refuge in the refugee-hosting countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, and Egypt, resulting in significant humanitarian needs. It is estimated that 6.8 million people, close to one third of the entire population of Syria, are in need of humanitarian assistance. Approximately 93,000 people have died in the ongoing conflict, with thousands more wounded. These numbers are increasing as the conflict continues and the humanitarian crisis worsens in the country.

Prior to G-8 Leaders' discussions today at the Lough Erne Summit in Northern Ireland, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced $115 million in new Canadian support that will help address the humanitarian and development challenges both in Syria and in those neighbouring countries receiving refugees.

I was in Ashcroft the other day, meeting the Mayor for lunch at the Central Cafe (I highly recommend the perogies) prior to a tourism announcement, when the owner, John, asked me the two questions that I get more than any other. "How's your Dad?" Very well, thank you. Chuck is in good health, enjoying his "retirement". And, "how do you like the job?" I'm really enjoying it. It is challenging, and it has variety - two things I'd want in any job I was doing.

Modernizing the Canadian Forces

Ottawa - As part of our Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government is finding modest efficiencies to balance military needs with greater value for taxpayer money.

Changes are coming to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces that will among other things streamline the procurement of support equipment and spare parts and enhance human resources management. These changes will have an impact at Canadian Forces facilities in Chilliwack.
