Budget Delivers Low Tax Plan for Jobs and Growth

Mark Strahl delivers maiden address in House of Commons

Ottawa- Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl, delivered his maiden address in the House of Commons during debate on the Conservative Government's Budget.

"As a Conservative I campaigned on our Low Tax Plan for Jobs and Growth and I am proud to see that we have delivered on our campaign commitments." Strahl added, "We promised to keep taxes low –something that no other party in this place campaigned on –and we have delivered."

Strahl noted in his speech that the push by both opposition parties to increase taxes on job creators was at odds with what the local Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce said was needed for jobs and growth.

Strahl read from a letter sent by the Chamber to his predecessor that stated reversing tax relief and increasing spending would "constrain the job creation and investment in Chilliwack businesses."

Strahl lauded the Budget for keeping commitments to increase funding for the most vulnerable seniors, provide tax cuts for children's art programs, family caregivers and volunteer firefighters. He also praised the Government's commitment to making improvements to local infrastructure like the Kawkawa Lake Road Bridge in Hope.

"This Budget is good news for Canada, good news for British Columbia and good news for Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon and I would encourage my colleagues on all sides of the House to support it," said Strahl.

In his first speech in the House of Commons, Strahl took time to thank his volunteers, his wife Lisa, son Maclean, his parents and siblings.

Strahl promised, "I said on May 2nd that I would be taking the common sense of the common people to the House of Commons and I make that commitment to them again today."
