Update on COVID-19

On March 13, after considering the advice of public health officials and with the unanimous consent of all parties, the House of Commons has been adjourned until April 20th to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. MPs will continue to work in their ridings during this unexpected recess.

Every day there is more information coming to light about the need to act, both individually and collectively, to give ourselves the best chance at managing the threat that the COVID-19 virus presents. By taking appropriate actions now we give ourselves the best chance of being able to manage the impacts of the virus on Canadians. Please take the appropriate precautions and always follow the advice of public health officials as you make decisions for yourself and your loved ones during the coming weeks.

Following the World Health Organization declaration that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a global pandemic and on the advice of public health officials, I am making the following announcements:

• My Coffee Connections public meetings will be postponed until further notice. I will continue to seek your feedback on federal matters through my mail-in surveys, social media channels and offices.

• My constituency office in Chilliwack will be closed to walk-in traffic until further notice. The staff will remain available during regular hours (Monday-Friday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm) to answer phones and assist with case files. Please call or email if you require information or assistance. The phone number is 604-847-9711 or 1-888-667-2808. You can also reach me by email at mark.strahl@parl.gc.ca.

• I will be limiting my public events in the coming weeks as a means of social distancing. I will continue to work full time by phone and videoconferencing.

• I will continue to provide updates on the public health situation as well as the federal government’s response to it on my website and social media channels as more information becomes available.

• Please follow BC Centre for Disease Control – ImmunizeBC on Facebook for the most up to date information on COVID-19. You should contact your family doctor or phone 8-1-1 to speak to a public health official if you believe you may have COVID-19 symptoms.

These are precautionary measures to avoid the possible spread of COVID-19 while communities across the country are seeing increased rates of infection and other large national organizations are taking significant steps to promote social distancing and flatten the curve of this virus.
